Protecting the children and adults in our care

At All Saints’ Crawley Down, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We are fully committed to the protection and welfare of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults who take part in the life of our church and community. Our safeguarding framework is built around six interlocking policies, in line with the House of Bishops’ guidance and the requirements of the Diocese of Chichester:

  • Safeguarding Policy Statement — Our PCC commitment to creating a safe environment for all. We carry out careful selection and training of volunteers and staff, use DBS checks where required, and respond without delay to any safeguarding concern.
  • Responding to Safeguarding Allegations — The welfare of any alleged victim is always our first priority. We do not investigate allegations ourselves; instead, we refer to the Diocesan Safeguarding Team, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), or statutory services as appropriate.
  • Whistleblowing Policy — Anyone — whether a volunteer, staff member, or member of the congregation — can raise a concern about poor practice in confidence and without fear of negative consequences. Clear escalation routes are in place.
  • E-Safety Policy — All staff and volunteers must avoid private electronic communication with children or young people. Online child protection concerns are treated with the same seriousness as offline ones.
  • Behaviour Code for Adults Working with Children — All adults working with children at All Saints’ are expected to treat children with dignity and respect, to work in sight of other adults wherever possible, and never to behave in ways that could be harmful or misinterpreted.
  • Data Consent — Personal data relating to safeguarding matters is held securely, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and shared only with those who need it for safeguarding purposes.
